Road Security Tips #2 – Stone Throwing, Molotov cocktail, Glare from Lasers and Roadblocks

Stone Throwing

1. Keep calm and act with common sense.

2. Hold the steering wheel steady with both hands.

3. Drive carefully - so as not to cause an accident. In most cases of stone throwing, people were injured because of losing control of the car and causing an accident, not from the stones.

4. Go to a safe place, or where soldiers are present.

5. If the car is protected against stones, there will be no harm to the passengers.

Molotov Cocktail

This is a glass bottle containing a flammable liquid, with a piece of cloth tucked into the mouth of the bottle. The terrorist lights the cloth and throws the bottle at the target. When the bottle shatters, the flammable liquid ignites and a strong fire breaks out.

1. Keep calm and act with common sense.

2. If there is a fire on the car, only from the outside:

Continue driving carefully to a safe place. The ride puts out the fire.

3. If there is a fire inside the car:

• Stop immediately, unbuckle the seat belts and doors, and quickly get out of the car.

• Go to a safe place as far as possible, and call for help.

• If your clothes catch fire, roll on the ground or asphalt in a safe place on the sides of the road, until the fire is extinguished.

Glare from Lasers

Terrorists aim a high-power laser beam at the eyes of drivers traveling on the road, to dazzle them and cause an accident. The laser may also damage the eyes. The color of the laser is usually green.

1. Slow down your driving speed.

2. To protect your eyes, lower the sun visors on the windshield.

3. Look down at the yellow stripe on the side of the road to your right, and direct your car accordingly.

4. If it is still difficult to continue driving, you can stop the vehicle on the side of the road until the glare stops.

Roadblocks

These are usually made of stones, wooden beams, burning tires or other large objects.

Do not get out of the car, and do not stay in the area. Get away quickly, because near every roadblock, terrorists may be waiting to throw stones or Molotov cocktails.

1. If you noticed the roadblock from a distance - stop the car immediately, turn around, and get away.

2. If you noticed the roadblock from up close - stop the car immediately, assess whether it is possible to pass it from the sides or over it:

• If possible - pass it quickly.

• If you can't pass, back up quickly and make a U-turn as soon as you can.
