If a citizen of Betar, who is not a member of the security
forces, sees something suspicious, for example – he sees from the window of his
house an unfamiliar and slightly suspicious person on the street. He is not
sure he's hostile, but not sure he's okay either. Or hears noises at night, or
any other signs of security concern.
A. Is he allowed to call the security hotline, the police, or another security agency?
B. What does he do with his phone at the end of the call? If he leaves the call active, it will engage the security hotline needlessly.
🕎 Answer from Rabbi David Taharani, Betar:
A. In any case of suspicion, call the hotline, and hang up at the end of the call.
B. Gun owners will carry it with them on Shabbat as well. Members of the security sqad will also carry a mobile phone.
🕎 Answer from Rabbi Asher Shakani, Betar:
A. In any event of concern, one is allowed to call the police, the security hotline, and the various security agencies.
B. Do not leave the call running. Hang up the call. If possible, do it in Shinui.
